EVENT OVERVIEW
Sarhad, Pune shares a long-standing bond with Kargil and its surrounding border regions since 1998—supporting education and long-term development while strengthening the human connection between the mainland and those who live on the frontlines. The Marathon stands as a national platform where fitness meets purpose: a disciplined run in the high-altitude terrain of Drass, anchored around the Kargil War Memorial, and organised in association with the Indian Army, local administration, and citizens.
More than a race, it is a tribute in motion—honouring the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve of our Armed Forces, while reinforcing national unity through sport. Each stride reflects respect for the land, the people, and the Bravehearts who defended India under the harshest conditions, turning remembrance into responsibility and participation into pride.
PRIME MINISTER'S MESSAGE
Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's personal letters to Sarhad, recognising the Kargil Marathon initiative and Sarhad's dedicated work across India's border regions.
This theme salutes the spirit of service that safeguards India’s borders and inspires every citizen to stand together with discipline and purpose. Set against the legacy of Kargil and the enduring strength of the Armed Forces, the Marathon invites runners to carry forward values of courage, national integration, and collective responsibility. It is a mission-driven tribute—where endurance becomes remembrance, unity becomes action, and the nation runs as one.

WORDS OF SUPPORT
Official messages acknowledging Sarhad’s work and the Kargil International Marathon initiative.
Having been associated with Sarhad for long, I convey my good wishes to Sarhad for coming out with this praiseworthy book, and also their annual Kargil International Marathon, both of which will go a long way in kindling curiosity about Kargil, not only in a common India traveler but also their friends and families abroad.
Ever since Kargil war, I have been associated with Sarhad, the NGO working from Pune, in Kargil, and many other parts of Jammu & Kashmir. Their efforts to rebuild and rejuvenate the local populace of Kargil which had suffered heavily during the war have been praiseworthy. Their latest initiative to hold the Kargil Marathon with the support of local population and Indian Army is commendable.
I have utmost respect for Mr. Nahar and I am indebted to him for paying special attention to Kargil district of Ladakh region by sponsoring various educational initiatives for the children of this far flung area and by organising grand events like the Kargil International Marathon.
Sarhad has already established itself as a friend of Kargil with its valuable service in adoption of children from Kargil as well as by initiating innovative events like the Kargil International Marathon. The people of Kargil appreciate the initiative of Sarhad and wish them success.
